The Kindness Machine Turns 3!

Three years ago, “The Kindness Machine” was released into the world! Thank you to all who have read the story, purchased/gifted copies, added copies to Little Free Libraries, donated copies to classrooms, etc.

I continue to be surprised when I see the book in libraries, on a classroom shelf or read a new review. Last month, I walked into my daughters school and saw The Kindness Machine magnet on a student locker and teared up. Last week, while celebrating our school-wide literacy week, I saw the book cover displayed on a classroom door with many other classics…and I teared up.

Since last year, I have had the opportunity to do a few more school author visits and was invited back to a school virtually as part of their kindness campaign. This year, my students are the first group of kiddos who did not hear me read the story 3 years ago during our school-wide reading week when the book launched. It was a true joy reading the book on World Kindness Day. The book is still something I am so proud of and love to see that it is making a small impact on kindness.

Last year, I focused on writing. I wrote more than I have in years, found courage to send manuscripts to critique groups, edited, revised, deleted, rewrote, etc. I told myself that 2024 was for writing and that 2025 is for submitting. Even if that means rejections, I have to gather up a little more courage and send stories off to publishers.

So if you’ll excuse me…I will bask in the glow of remembering launch day and then I will dig deep and begin the submission process to see what other stories may find their way into the world and on bookshelves.

Thank you for your support. Be kind. Always, always…be kind.
