The Night Before World Kindness Day

‘Twas the night before World Kindness Day, and all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The teachers and parents prepared stories to share,
In hopes that our world would soon learn to care.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds;
While visions of kindness danced in their heads;
The mom whispered, “be kind to others and yourself,”
While dad put The Kindness Machine back on the shelf.

When out on the lawn the kids heard some chatter,
They sprang out of bed to see what was the matter.
When what to their wondering eyes did appear,
the whole entire town, hand in hand, ready to cheer!

The family ran outside so excited and quick,
They knew in a moment kindness was out there and ready to stick.
“Now, Kindness! now, Empathy! now Love, Peace and Joy!
On, Hope! on, Compassion! For every girl and each boy.

They threw kindness around like confetti, from the tall to the small,
Cracking smiles, sharing stories and having quite a ball!

And then, in a twinkling, it happened with a poof!
The love was overflowing from the lawn to each roof.
The town celebrated their differences and love went all around,
Down each chimney, through the streets it came with a bound.

They smiled—how they giggled! The town was so merry!
Kindness really mattered, spread it ‘round like a fairy.
Everyday please choose kindness, helping others is a beautiful sight,
Much kindness to all, and to all a goodnight.
