Today I invite you to choose hope over hate.
America has figured out how to hate. Unfortunately, I feel it is the one thing we currently excel at. So, we can choose to join in on the hate, or steer away and choose hope.
Along with hope comes joy, kindness, compassion, empathy, acceptance and love. I don’t know about you, but that it what I want to lean into. That is what I want to instill in my children and students.
Growing up, no one really talked about politics in public. Social media wasn’t a thing yet and our opinions were shared with family and close friends…maybe. Now, politics and opinions are everywhere and it’s honestly hard to get away from. Regardless of if your candidate was selected in the election this week, please choose hope over hate. Little acts of kindness have the ability to change someone’s entire day and can have a positive snowball effect on us all.
Please continue to read books to the children in your life that shine a light on others to help build empathy and acceptance. Acknowledge that our differences should be celebrated and that they truly make us unique. In my classroom I often say, “How boring would it be if we were all the same?” Each and every one of us have strengths and have something we can bring to the table. Do we all have weaknesses? Of course. But we can continue to learn and grow by keeping an open mind and learning from others.
World Kindness Day is around the corner, celebrated every year on November 13. Together, we can choose hope, spread kindness and make a difference.
