Violet’s Victory
Written by: Valerie Goldstein
Illustrated by: Alejandro Echavez
Violet wants to participate in Sports Day at her school. She walks with crutches for support, which she calls her “magic sticks.” Violet knows she will not be able to keep up with her classmates using crutches. Then she spots a purple handcycle! With determination and perseverance she participates in Sports Day. Every hue of purple is mentioned and makes for a perfect art connection.
Violet’s Victory is an autobiographical story. Valerie, who uses her own magic sticks and handcycles, has written articles and given presentations about different abilities. I am confident her picture book will continue to shine a positive light on individuals with different abilities.
