BIG
Written and Illustrated by Vashti Harrison

Our words matter. A beautifully illustrated picture book that reminds us all to think before we speak. A book that reminds us that it is ok to “send the hurtful words back” because they no longer serve you.
The phrase, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” is a load of garbage. I am sure we can all remember hurtful words that were said to us at one point or another.
Use this book as a beautiful reminder of how important our words are and the importance of being kind to one another…and to ourselves.

Sounds like a lovely book. I heard the sticks and stones so much but words are hurtful and I well remember the pain of those words.

What a great theme! There is such an emphasis now on the moral implications of our actions within kid lit, and when we observe the world around us, its so different. Super easy to see why kids can’t reconcile what they know (and see hundreds of times in books) we ought to be doing with the behaviors of adults. Big is a great example of this. Thanks for sharing!
