A is for…

Welcome to the 2024 A to Z blog challenge! This year, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite picture books. I will share a short review, cover of the book and will have a link for you to check out the book(s). I know it is impossible to buy every single book I share, however, you can still support authors by requesting their book at your local library and leaving reviews. Here we go!

Arabic Quilt: An Immigrant Story
Written by: Aya Khalil
Illustrated by: Anait Semirdzhyan

Kanzi moves to America from Egypt. Her grandmother, Teita, gives her a quilt that makes her feel comfortable and safe. She struggles in her new school where differences are noticed. With the help of her mother and encouraging teacher, they make a paper quilt with the names of her whole class written in Arabic. Language and culture is celebrated in this stunning picture book.

Abdul’s Story
Written by: Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow
Illustrated by: Tiffany Rose

Abdul loves to tell stories. But to write them? The letters seem to wiggle and he finds himself constantly erasing. An author, Mr. Muhammad, visits their school and shows Abdul his own messy notebook. He is inspired to write his own story. A perfect book to showcase the encouraging nudge from an adult and how perseverance is more important that perfection.
