H is for Hijabs, Help & Hi

Working through the alphabet and sharing some of my favorite picture books.

Hana’s Hundreds of Hijabs
Written by: Razeena Omar Gutta
Illustrated by: Manal Mirza

Hana loves to decorate her hijabs with gems and jewels. She ends up sharing her talent and creativity with the community. This is a fun book to read aloud will alliterations and words such as “hijab-able” and “hijab-tastic.” Hijabs are celebrated through the vibrant illustrations and joyful story.

Help Wanted: Must Love Books
Written by: Janet Sumner Johnson
Illustrated by: Courtney Dawson

Shailey enjoys bedtime stories with her dad. She ends up “firing him” when his new job takes up too much time. She interviews a slew of fairy tale characters, that are sure to crack up little readers and listeners. In the end, her dad has an awesome surprise and quality family time is celebrated.

Hi, It’s Me! I Have ADHD
Written by: Katelyn Mabry
Illustrated by: J. Charles Friedel

A perfect story to introduce or continue a positive conversation about ADHD.

A few years ago I read this to my 2nd grade students. When I held up the book, a student with ADHD yelled, “HEY! I HAVE THAT!” He was so excited. All children should be able to see themselves in books.

Also check out, “Journey with me through ADHD – a podcast for kids” for helpful strategies and important conversations.

Please support these authors by purchasing their book, requesting from your library, leaving a review and/or telling another book lover about the book.
